A look back at the Reunion leg of the SASN Tour de France

Ecosystem

On June 7, 8 and 9, the interministerial delegation traveled, as part of the 7th leg of the tour de France de la " Santé numérique", to the island of La Réunion to meet those who are making digital health happen on their territory

The first day was held at the GRADeS TESIS premises in Le Port.
A morning was devoted to exchanges between members of the delegation, local relays (ARS, DEETS, DRARI, GRADeS, Assurance maladie) and local support providers (Caisse des dépôts, Digital Réunion, French Tech and the Technopole) to discuss major digital health programs and strategies for supporting projects in the region.

In the afternoon, a round table discussion focused on telehealth and its application on the island of La Réunion.
The use of telehealth is developing in all healthcare sectors, each time adapting to their specific features. The Réunion region has embraced telehealth to improve access to care for the most vulnerable (in prisons and EHPAD), or to strengthen the use of specialist services (remote autism diagnosis). However, telehealth is also a means of sharing information between professionals and promoting cooperation between regions (notably with Mayotte for infant surgery). Through various projects from Reunion Island, the round table illustrated the challenges of telehealth and the plurality of its uses!

The speakers were:

  • Louise PIHOUEE (MSP/ DGOS, moderator)
  • Denis LERAT (ARS La Réunion)
  • Jean-Marc SIMONPIERI (DCGDR)
  • Dr Jean-Luc MICHEL (CHU La Réunion, child surgery)
  • Dr Vincent CALLIER (CHU La Réunion, autism telediagnosis)

The second day was devoted to site visits.
The delegation was able to visit the Technopole's TechSud cluster and talk with DOC companies ASSYST, ERUPTION, LOGIPREN, PSY APPS, SAPPY and SARA 112, who were able to present their solutions, discuss the various calls for projects underway and provide feedback on strategy.

The delegation then visited the Centre de Ressource Autisme (CRA) Réunion Mayotte, where the TéléDiAAde system was presented. Based on video extracts sent by medical-social establishments receiving people with disabilities, TéléDiAAde enables the CRA's multi-professional team to diagnose autism remotely. The discussions that followed highlighted the benefits of this organization in reducing the time it takes to obtain a diagnosis, and underlined the importance of having suitable, secure digital tools at one's disposal.

The day ended with a time of exchange with the Information Systems Security Managers from GRADeS, ARS and CHU, who presented their work on cybersecurity in Reunion (awareness-raising actions and GHT actions at regional level) and exchanged views with representatives from ANS and the Ministry in charge of health. Cybersecurity is a major challenge for healthcare data processing. For example, the specific nature of an island territory means that we need to anticipate any power cuts that might prevent the supply of patient data stored in mainland France. It is therefore imperative to favor secure, regional data hosting.

The morning of the third day was devoted to a further meeting between project leaders and members of the delegation, as well as local relays.
A mini-fair was held to enable project leaders to present their progress on projects of varying degrees of maturity (still at the research stage or in deployment).
Project leaders were also able to present their successes, the difficulties they had encountered and the suitability of financing plans (including SASN) to their needs. Alongside local support staff, the delegation met with the following project leaders: #BEGAIEMENT, CIRAD, K PROCESS, IRD, MON RDV KINE, SAPPY.

The event closed with a round table dedicated to training and digital inclusion.
The first part of this round table focused on feedback on training schemes for healthcare professionals.
The second part focused on citizen training. Increasingly central to the monitoring of one's health, the issue of digital inclusion in health needs to be addressed, and all healthcare players need to be made aware of it. There is a network of helpers in digital use and access, who are gradually taking up and training in the challenges of digital health. While the two worlds - digital inclusion and healthcare - have identified common access issues, the bridges between the two have yet to be built.
