Shared Medical Record (DMP)
The Shared Medical Record (DMP) is a digital health record implemented by the French national health insurance system.
To get off to a good start
The Shared Medical Record (DMP) addresses a public health issue. By centralizing a patient's health information, the DMP strengthens collaboration between all healthcare professionals, whether they work in private practice, in hospitals, or in the medical-social sector, and facilitates patient follow-up. Its use is particularly relevant for having the right information at the right time, wherever you are.
For all healthcare/medical-social and social professionals, it also guarantees better medical care for patients. Healthcare professionals can access the DMP in two ways: from their DMP-compatible professional software or via the WebPS DMP interface (on the dmp.fr website), by authenticating themselves using a CPx/e-CPS professional card or an application server certificate (CSA) within their organization. Find out which electronic identification method is right for each situation.
Healthcare/medical-social and social professionals can consult the documents contained in the DMP, if authorized by the patient and in accordance with the DMP authorization matrix. They can add documents that are useful for the patient's care. For professionals in the medical-social and social sectors, technical work is underway to enable operational access to the DMP under the conditions set out in the authorization matrix.
Certain documents are subject to mandatory submission to the DMP: Article L. 1111-15 of the Public Health Code: "Every healthcare professional, regardless of their mode and place of practice, must record in the shared medical file, for each procedure or consultation, the diagnostic and therapeutic information necessary for the coordination of care for the person being treated, the list of which is set by order of the Minister of Health." (Decree of April 26, 2022, amended by the decree of May 23, 2024).
In addition to the information provided by patients and/or healthcare professionals, certain documents are automatically entered into patients' DMPs by the French national health insurance system, such as reimbursement histories.
On the user side, since early 2022, the DMP has been integrated into their digital space, called Mon espace santé (My Health Space), created for all persons affiliated with a French compulsory health insurance scheme, unless they have opted out. A medical file is then automatically created for these users. For those who already had a DMP before this automatic creation, all data can be found in Mon espace santé.
In practice
In order to interface with the DMP, software must first be authorized by the National Depository and Approval Center (CNDA).
The process aims to ensure that the software complies with the specifications defined in the integration guide.
- DMP authorization process Compatibility (CNDA)
- LPS integration guide (GIE SESAM Vitale Industrial Space)
In addition, a version of the software that complies with the Ségur du Numérique en Santé (Digital Health Security Agreement) is strongly recommended: The Ségur du Numérique en Santé
When ?
The DMP has been integrated into Mon espace santé since January 1, 2022, and was automatically created for all individuals affiliated with a French compulsory health insurance plan, unless they opted out.
Compliance
Interfacing with the DMP
In order to interface with the DMP under the conditions defined in the publisher contract (general terms and conditions and special DMP conditions), software must first be authorized by the National Deposit and Approval Center (CNDA).
The authorization process aims to ensure that software complies with the specifications defined in the business software integration guide in order to guarantee the interoperability and security of the service.
DMP compatibility can be complete (creation, input, or consultation of the DMP) or partial. Authorization for DMP compatibility of software is obtained following a specific process.

The Shared Medical Record (DMP): A Key Space for Innovation in Digital Health
The Shared Medical Record, or DMP, is a secure personal digital space where every patient in France can store and share their health information with the healthcare professionals of their choice. Understanding how the DMP works and its potential is essential for innovators wishing to develop relevant and compliant digital health services.
DMP: A Pillar of Care Coordination
The DMP centralizes patient medical data, such as treatments, allergies, medical history, test results, and care reports. This digital record promotes better coordination between the various professionals involved in patient care, thereby improving the quality and safety of care.
Opportunities for Innovation Around the DMP
For digital health stakeholders, the DMP represents fertile ground for innovation. By complying with security and confidentiality standards, it is possible to develop applications and services that:
- Facilitate access to DMP information by patients and professionals through intuitive and user-friendly interfaces.
- Offer clinical decision support tools based on analysis of the data contained in the DMP.
- Improve the monitoring of chronic diseases through personalized reminders or alerts.
- Enable patients to better understand and manage their health with clear and relevant information.
Regulatory and Technical Aspects
Access to the DMP is secure and controlled. Healthcare professionals must have a CPS card (Healthcare Professional Card) or e-CPS to access it, while patients retain full control over their data: they can view the history of access to their file or hide certain documents. The Caisse Nationale de l'Assurance Maladie (CNAM) plays a central role in the deployment and maintenance of the DMP. The creation of a DMP is a right offered to everyone covered by health insurance in France.
The Public Health Code (CSP) strictly regulates the use of medical data contained in the DMP. In addition, a dedicated commission ensures compliance with the ethical and regulatory rules related to this system.
By integrating these technical and regulatory aspects, innovators can design tailored solutions that fit seamlessly into the DMP ecosystem, serving both patients and healthcare professionals.
