The National Health ID is a unique identifier assigned to every patient in France. It links all of a patient’s health records, regardless of the healthcare provider.

The problem it solves 

Same last name, same first name… but not the same patient. Name similarities lead to serious medical errors. The INS makes it possible to identify each person with certainty.

The National Health Identity (INS) consists of a person’s civil status information (birth name, birth first names, date of birth, gender, and place of birth), to which an INS identification number is assigned—usually corresponding to the Social Security number.

This information is verified using official identification documents (passport, national ID card) to ensure reliable identification.
