Preparing French research for the European Health Data Space
The European Health Data Space (EEDS) regulation will gradually come into force from 2027. This new harmonized framework will profoundly transform access to and use of health data for research, imposing greater interoperability, transparency, and unified access procedures in each Member State.
To anticipate these changes, working groups led by the CNS Executive Committee are currently being set up. They will play a decisive role in the operational implementation of the regulation in France. The Health Research Program Agencies (led by Inserm) and Digital Research Program Agencies (led by Inria) are involved in this governance. As
researchers from national research organizations or university hospitals, you are both the owners and the main users of health data. Your involvement is essential in this work to collectively build the national health data space.
This dynamic represents a strategic opportunity for French research, which will be able to contribute to defining technical specifications, ensure that its uses are taken into account, and promote its expertise in health data. The active participation of researchers is essential to ensure strong and legitimate representation in the construction of this new European space.
