What is the Health Data Hub?

The Health Data Hub (PDS) is a public interest group (GIP) that brings together 56 stakeholders, the vast majority of whom are public entities: CNAM, CNRS, the Haute Autorité de Santé, France Assos Santé… (full list). The Health Data Hub is primarily intended for project leaders: researchers, entrepreneurs, research analysts, data managers, and others.
It provides them with easy, unified, transparent, and secure access to health data.

🎯 Tasks

Mandated by law to collect, organize, and make available data from the expanded National Health Data System (SNDS) and to promote innovation in the use of health data, the PDS has established several strategic priorities:

  • Reduce the time it takes to access health data and increase the number of high-impact projects;
  • Make data from the SNDS’s main database available, enrich it, and facilitate its reuse;
  • Strengthen the PDS’s connections with stakeholders in the ecosystem;
  • Listen to civil society and collaboratively build a culture of health data.

💡 I have a project—how can connecting with the Health Data Hub help me?

The Health Data Hub supports projects by providing resources tailored to their needs and offering several services:

  • A one-stop shop for requests to access data from the National Health Data System (outpatient care, hospitalizations, laboratory tests, etc.)
  • The PDS data warehouse, which contains copies of databases relevant to research that can be linked to the SNDS’s main database whenever possible. This enables project leaders to access structured and well-documented data while benefiting from a simplified and harmonized access framework.
  • A secure technological platform for data storage, computing, matching, and analysis
  • New tools in preparation for the EEDS: the National Database Directory (which maps authorized databases, their uses, and their access conditions) and the Metadata Catalog (which details the structure and technical variables of datasets according to the European Health DCAT-AP standard)
  • Training courses and educational kits to provide useful resources for all audiences (project leaders, citizens, researchers, etc.). To access and reuse third-party data, you generally must comply with certain formalities; the PDS helps you identify the appropriate process and its steps.

🤝 At what stage of my project should I get in touch?

  • As early as the stage of considering the potential benefits of using SNDS data;
  • When submitting the application to access the data.

💸 Does it fund projects?

Depending on the project, the Health Data Hub offers comprehensive, end-to-end support, including human, technological, and financial resources.
